That’s right, Iowa had a prisoner if war camp. Why it was placed here is not known, some think it was because Iowa is land locked and escape would be almost impossible. From the history I remember the prisoners were treated quite well as Iowans generally treat all visitors with hospitality. These prisoners were even paid for their work and were allowed to buy items they wanted.
