Similar to other types of LCD screens, you will need to take good care of the screen on your Garmin GPS navigation system.  Among other things, you will need to make sure liquids do not splash onto it.  In some cases, you may want to purchase clear covers that will adhere to the screen.  Aside from helping keep the surface of the GPS unit clean, you will never need to worry about scratches or discoloration. As the cover become soiled or difficult to see through, all you will need to do is peel it off and install a new one.  That said, you may also want to consider purchasing a unit that has built in waterproofing or other types of protection for the screen.
