Backlinks are links that originate from another website going to your own website.  Backlinks are mainly used by search engines to rate or to rank all websites according to its quality and quantity. 

One of the tricks of getting high amount of backlinks is trying to get links to your site from high ranking websites.  This method is otherwise known as “link love.” 

However, one must always be cautious of getting linked  to sites which are termed “link farms” whose sole purpose is to gain link popularity based only on the quantity, but not quality.  There are many link scams and link-scheme spammers floating around the cyberspace which one must be aware of and try to avoid at any cost.
