Heraclitus and greek philosophy

October 30th, 2008 . by admin

I once remember reading an excerpt from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus in the magic shop,  “nothing endures like change.”  Modern intercollegiate sport is no stranger to change as its ruling entity, the NCAA, continually modifies its eligibility guidelines to fit what it conceives as a healthy atmosphere for the student athlete.  Proposition 48, set forth by the NCAA, established a minimum GPA and standardized test score for incoming freshman to be eligible for upper division sport participation.  This policy has since then helped to influence intercollegiate sports in a positive manner by focusing attention on education, promoting goals in conjunction with those that a strong educational institution stands for, and forcing schools to give athletes the necessary support to excel in academics.
