Depression Can Be Seasonal

November 22nd, 2008 . by admin

A type of normal depression that is becoming more recognised is the variation in mood that occurs with the changing of the seasons.  Many people find that during the winter months they have less energy, that they need more sleep, and are inclined to doze off easily.  For some sufferers, this seasonal variation to activity is accompanied by feelings of sadness, a less optimistic outlook, and a tendency to be less sociable. With the changing of the season to spring the sufferer will undergo a upsurge in energy and enthusiasm and an increased level of activity which persists until autumn comes around.  It is highly unlikely that the seasonal variations in temperature can explain in full these mood shifts.  This condition is sometimes referred to as “Seasonal Affective Disorder” or SAD for short.
