Different types of dental insurance plans

June 29th, 2008 . by admin

Politicians gear up their campaigns by touting “healthcare coverage for all.” Presumably, affordable dental insurance is in this promise. However, many people may not realize that they can afford dental insurance, even if they do not have healthcare insurance. Maintaining good oral health now is necessary to avoid costly procedures in the future.
There are a variety of individual and family plans to choose from. These include PPO (Preferred Provider Organization - dentists who part of a select network), DHMO (Dental Health Maintenance Organization - closed panel of dentists), Managed Care Plans (receive list of dentists with a set fee schedule), Indemnity Plans (traditional plan where patient receives care from their own choice of dentists), and Direct Reimbursement Plans (you pay for services rendered and receive reimbursement from the insurance company).
