Magnesium and Your Heart

November 10th, 2009 . by admin

The effect of magnesium on diabetes and hypertension has led to the inference that magnesium should also have a beneficial effect on the health of your heart.  There have been several surveys carried out that have concluded that magnesium is associated with a reduced risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), and also with a reduced risk of stroke. Test have suggested that low levels of magnesium in your body can be associated with an irregular heart beat, and that overall a diet rich in the mineral should be beneficial to the health of your cardiovascular system.

There have been only a few tests carried out on the effects of magnesium vitamins on the coronary health of subjects with CHD, although those that have been carried out indicate a positive relationship. In studies, patients taking a placebo were less able to carry out exercise without chest pain than those given a magnesium vitamin.  Another study has demonstrated the anti-clotting properties of magnesium, and how a supplement might be useful in preventing thrombosis.

The studies carried out on real patients have been few however, and more are necessary before firm conclusions can be drawn. For the moment, though, it appears that there is a firm connection between magnesium and cardiovascular health.

Magnesium vitamins are available at your local or internet health food store.  Always choose from name brands like Solaray or Nature’s Life to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.
