There are many ways to learn how to transfer money.  Many banks have methods that allow in-bank transfers for amounts up to a specified dollar limit.  Be persistent with your bank and let them know that you are a valued customer who needs these funds quickly.  If you are borrowing from a friend, ask him to go directly to the bank and speak with a person in charge of money transfers.  He might even be able to have a special account set up for you at his home bank and he can deposit the funds directly into it.  If your friend must write a check, it is important that he include on the back of the check your account number and where the deposit is to be entered (your bank).
